Barry William Odykirk
ODYKIRK, Barry William - Age 62 of Holly died Saturday, January 12, 2008 in Las Vegas, NV. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 21, 2007 at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly with Pastor Ed Pedley officiating. Visitation will be from .2-9 P.M. Sunday. Military honors and Interment will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly at a later date.

Mr. Odykirk was born in Flint on December 10, 1945 the son of Robert and Lucille (Bierie) Odykirk. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the US Marine Corps and was retired from the US Army Reserves. He was a journeyman pipe fitter, retiring from Pipe Fitters Local #370 of Flint. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Holly, the DAV, the VFW, and the NCO Association.

He is survived by his wife Jackuline; 2 daughters Jeanne' (Tom) Cairns of Fenton and Rhonda Barnhart of FL; 4 grandchildren, Crystal, Tiffany, Nastassja, and Cameron; 5 sisters Jacqueline Moore of Swartz Creek, Sandra Cruse of OK, Roberta (David Kowalski) Proffer of Swartz Creek, Elizabeth Rose of Swartz Creek, and Nancy Lince of Traverse City; and several nieces and nephews. Michigan Democratic Presidential Primary

Voters will vote at their regular polling places between 7 A.M. and 8 P.M.
Voters can vote by absentee ballot if they meet one of the requirements - out of town, age 60 or older, disability, etc.
The deadline to register to vote is 30 days before January 15, 2008 or December 17, 2007.
In order to vote at a polling place, a voter must show a photo ID or sign a statement that they do not have a photo ID with them. Absentee voters do not have to produce a photo ID.
Voters will be asked whether they want a Democratic or Republican ballot, and a record will be made of which ballot they take.
The voter's choice of candidate will be secret as in all public elections.
The Democratic ballot will have 6 choices

Uncommitted

Write-in

A vote for "uncommitted" is a vote to send delegates to the Democratic National Convention who are not committed or pledged to any candidate. Those delegates can vote for any candidate they choose at the Convention.
Supporters of Joe Biden, John Edwards, Barack Obama and Bill Richardson are urged to vote "uncommitted " instead of writing in their candidates' names because write-in votes for those candidates will not be counted.

As DNC Chair, Governor Dean has been committed to building the grassroots of the Democratic Party and strengthening state and county Democratic Parties through the DNC's "50 State Strategy."

34th Annual Carry Nation Parade
Saturday, September 8

the North Oakland Democratic Club and
the Orion Area Democratic Club

Holly is a significant part of the Democratic Party's support in the northern part of our county. It's a growing area; and it's growing more Blue. We'll carry our banners and hand out treats for kids and dogs. You'll be helping gain votes for 2008.

The Carry Nation Parade is part of the three-day Carry Nation Festival Sept 7 - 10. The festival features a Classic Car Show, Arts & Crafts and Food vendors, Kids activities, dramatic presentions, and much more. Carry Nation was a leading figure for prohibition and visited Holly when it was a booming railroad town riddled with taverns and ladies of ill repute. She was known for busting up bars, and closing down “sinful” drinking and gambling establishments and Holly was a perfect choice. The parade and festival were established to commemorate the end of prohibition - so what better to express our joy than a good old fashioned parade?

Location: in downtown Holly, staging area is at the corner of Saginaw and Airport Drive.
The check in table will be located in the Muffler Man parking lot. Units will be lined up for the parade in the subdivision behind Muffler Man - the Airport Sub. Parade planners ask that cars drop off walkers and park in the area just north of Holly Auto and in whatever space is available in the Muffler Man lot.

WHAT TO WEAR: Blue tops and khaki pants. Remember sunscreen/hats, jackets, rain gear according to the weather. We're rain or shine.

Carpools: Carpools are being arranged to depart @ 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM from the Marriott Hotel at Centerpoint in Pontiac. The hotel is on Centerpoint Drive, which is west off Opdyke Road, just north of Square Lake Road -- it's off Exit 75 of I-75. Meet up in NE part of their parking lot.

WHERE:
Our Booth will be in "Art in the Park" section of AB&E. It's a small park on the West side of Saginaw Street, between Pike and Lawrence Streets. It's just north of where you come out of the Phoenix parking structure.

WHAT:
We'll be handing out balloons and literature and winning friends and influencing people by answering questions, gathering information on people's political views and promoting our candidates and issues. This high visibility event is a top annual venue for the OCDP.

TIME:
We will be working in 4 hour shifts from Friday to Monday.
Friday: 4pm -11pm (4 - 7 and 7 - 11)
Saturday: 11am -11pm (11-3, 3-7, 7-11)
Sunday: 11am - 11pm (11-3, 3-7, 7-11)
Monday: 11am - 8pm (11-3, 3-7, 7-take down)

WHAT TO WEAR:
Blue tops and khaki pants. Hats welcome to ward off the sun. Bring rain gear if it's threatening showers.

The Orion Area Democratic Club (OADC) has a booth (canopy) at the Independence Twp "Festival of Fun" from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM on July 4th at Clintonwood Park (Clarkston). Please volunteer if you can help.

We will be joined by volunteers from the Oakland County Democratic Party and the North Oakland Democratic Club, who will help us with voter ID, Club/Party visibility and attracting new members.

The OADC canopy will be centrally located between the Tennis Courts and the Volleyball Courts. [Map]

The annual festival will feature a softball tournament, an arts and craft show, vendor booths (like ours), a K-9 Frisbee competition, live bands, children's activities and fireworks (dusk). There will be a number of food concessions from local restaurants and caterers.

This Saturday, October 21th, the Marcinkowski for Congress campaign plans to distribute literature in the Lake Orion and Clarkston areas. More hands (and feet) make the work lighter! We need your help!

* In LAKE ORION, meet at Starbucks, 590 S. Lapeer Rd, in Lake Orion (North of W. Clarkston Rd) meet at 10:00 - 10:30 AM, [Map]

* In CLARKSTON, door-to-door from 10am-2pm. Meet at Caribou Coffee, 6315 Sashabaw Rd, Clarkston.[ Map]

Come and have a cup of coffee, and a chat, and then join us! We will have maps, lists, and literature, we are looking for people to help.

North Oakland Dem Action

North Oakland Dems:

The Marcinkowski for Congress Campaign will be going door-to-door across North Oakland County this weekend ( www.vote-jim.com). As you may know, Jim's campaign is in reach of victory and has identified North Oakland as strategically key to Jim's success. Yet, unlike other parts of the state, our area has not yet achieved a critical mass of Dem volunteers. This is why we, the small and dedicated group of Democrats in North Oakland, must step up to the plate now.

Please consider volunteering your time this Saturday to one of the following efforts:

*In HOLLY, door-to-door from 10am-2pm. Meet at the Bittersweet Cafe, 12 S Saginaw St, Holly.

*In ORTONVILLE, door-to-door from 10am-2pm. Meet at location TBD (contact Jamie Poller, Marcinkowski's Oakland Field Coordinator at jlpoller@gmail.com or 231-758-0213 for final details tomorrow)

*In CLARKSTON, door-to-door from 10am-2pm. Meet at Caribou Coffee, 6315 Sashabaw Rd, Clarkston.

*In LAKE ORION, walking with Jim at Barn Days from Noon-5pm. Meet at Friendship Park, Lake Orion.

Meeting of North Oakland Dems

The next meeting of the North Oakland Dems will take place on Wednesday, September 20, 2006, 7pm at the Brandon Township Library (304 South Street, Ortonville, Michigan, www.brandonlibrary.org ).

Items on the agenda will include:

*Volunteer opportunities to help elect Democrats in the area.

*Briefings from local Democratic candidates.

Bumper stickers, yard signs and other campaign materials should also be available.

Holly Carry Nation Parade

The North Oakland Dems made a strong showing at this weekend's Carry Nation Parade in Holly, despite the thunderstorms! Orion Area Dems President, Phil Reid, assisted in the carrying of the North Oakland Dems banner with members Becky Gilpin and Frank Aiello. . .
